The Bank Dick

We’re making motion picture history here.

A drunkard (W.C. Fields) inadvertently foils a bank robbery, so the bank hires him as its security guard.

Very much of its time, perhaps a little dated even when it came out, but nevertheless funny - at least in this small dose. Fields bumbles around, easily surprised, slurring his speech, running into doors and generally having a good time. He floats in his own cloud of booze and smoke, taking life at his own pace.

The Bank Dick’s drink-fuelled 40s sense of humour chimed with me, more than well enough to forgive the half-baked plot. A hour well spent.
