The film that started it all. Even only a few years on (8 now!) it’s fun to look back and see the seed that spawned the massive onslaught of superhero films.
The potential for an interesting franchise is clear from the get go. Favreau opens with an intense capture sequence then cuts back to give us a glimpse into the life of pre-Iron Man Tony Stark. Downey Jr. is charming and funny in the role, and the script is surprisingly witty. In 2008 this felt like a game changer and everyone wanted to see more.
There are more holes in the plot than Swiss cheese, but this is still the spectacular, entertaining romp it was when it first came out.
