40 years old but as fresh and sharp as ever. Allen makes breaking the fourth wall natural rather than cheesy, and almost effortlessly endears the audience to his repulsive and selfish character Alvy.
He marries the funny script with every technique film has to offer, right down to getting laughs out of subtitles.
Perhaps it’s a like-it-or-loathe-it kind of film but it’s at the very least a must-see.
