A couple (Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler) need money to send their daughter to college, so they open an illegal casino in a friend’s (Jason Mantzoukas) house.
Something about The House, despite its stellar cast, has ‘middle of the road un-funny shitshow’ written all over it. With this in mind (and perhaps one or two choice reviews from the critics), you might be pleasantly surprised to find that it really isn’t that bad at all.
In fact, it’s kind of funny at times. The premise isn’t bad. The cast are entertaining. It doesn’t insult the audience too much.
It’s not exactly side-splitting and runs out of steam fairly quickly, but I find it hard to see why this was so hated when it came out.
