The Gold Rush

I’m very particular who I dance with.

We didn’t watch any Chaplin last year so in our time travel through comedy history: corona edition, we are putting that right. This time the little tramp goes to the Klondike in search of gold.

Here are some highlights. His trousers fall down while dancing. He has to boil his shoe and eat it. He opens the door and is blown away by a storm. He makes dinner rolls dance. The cabin he is in teeters on the edge of a cliff. On paper it doesn’t sound funny at all, yet Chaplin makes it work.

He doesn’t always strike gold here but the good material far outweighs the middling and makes for yet another film that gets a laugh out of the audience 100 years on.
