Schindler’s List

It’s been a while since I last saw Schindler’s List, it doesn’t have much to offer second time around since Spielberg understandably plays it pretty straight down the middle. A few things:

Liam Neeson’s performance is confident yet nuanced; not something I’m used to from him.

The girl in the red coat is often remembered as being the only piece of colour in the film. It’s worth noting that the candle flames are also colourised when the Jews are finally allowed to perform their religious ceremony.

I’m still not sure how I feel about seeing such an inspiring tale of hope when 6,000,000 people died. The Holocaust is a tricky subject to tackle though, and perhaps works like Schindler’s List are a better way to get a sense of what happened rather than just spouting facts and figures.
