Our Little Sister
Three sisters run into their teenage half-sister at their father’s funeral. Upon realising she has no one to look after her and nowhere to go, they offer to take her in to live with them in their house.
What a beautiful, slight & charming film this is. There’s no high drama or convoluted conflict. Koreeda creates tangible, real characters then basks in their everyday lives. He finds truth and beauty in the mundane, and never lets the film get dull.
This is a gorgeous, simple tale of love, loss & family. The languid pace won’t be to everyone’s liking but I found the earnest tone and idyllic backdrop to be a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. Subtle, but spellbinding.
