The Edge of Seventeen

There are two types of people in the world: The people who naturally excel at life. And the people who hope all those people die in a big explosion.

This is a classic teenage melodrama - a girl stops talking to her best friend after the friend starts dating the girl’s brother. Don’t let that put you off, The Edge of Seventeen is a funny and relatable film that stands above most others of its ilk.

Craig throws every high school cliche out the window. The film instead sets its sights on capturing a real slice of life in that awkward not-quite-but-sort-of-an-adult stage. It’s funny, sometimes hilarious, yet every bit of comedy seems to come from a real place. Nothing gets played just for laughs.

The Edge of Seventeen is a simple story laid out in a beautiful and touching way. It flew under the radar a bit last year but here’s hoping more and more people get to see it.
