Wristcutters: A Love Story
Wristcutters is one of those high-concept movies where the premise is so simple yet yields thousands of little opportunities for drama, comedy and romance. People who commit suicide go to a parallel version of our world, only everything is slightly worse. It’s like a thought experiment you came up with in the shower.
It’s interesting to see a world where literally everyone has the same thing in common. It’s cool to see the idea of a place that never really ends, no matter how far you drive, brought to life. It’s funny to see a car footwell that leads to a literal black hole, making you lose everything you drop into it.
The road-trip-across-an-endless-desert is a somewhat overused idea but the notion that the characters will truly get nowhere adds a fresh touch to the whole story.
I don’t think this is as funny as others seem to but it’s held up well since 2006 and is definitely worth a look.
