Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Hollywood is surely about to run out of stuff to scrape from the bottom of the barrel if they are making sequels to Jumanji, AND YET this is not the disaster is was destined to be.
In this one, rather than being sucked into a board game some teenagers get sucked into a video game. The catch is, they transform into the characters they picked at the start. So the nerdy guy becomes The Rock. The nerdy girl becomes Karen Gillan. The hot girl becomes Jack Black and the big black guy becomes small black guy Kevin Hart.
It’s not exactly side-splitting stuff but it does sort of work. The ‘in-game’ characters play off each other well and fit perfectly into the ‘jungle’ backdrop. This makes Jumanji a somewhat pleasant experience rather than the painful over the top one you might expect.
Talking of pleasant… the camera perves on Karen Gillan like a teenager but also spends lots of time on The Rock’s giant arms so it’s an equal opportunities film.
This is not worth your money at the cinema, but when it comes out on Blu-Ray, streaming or however the fuck people watch stuff now it’s definitely worth a look.
