Star Trek Beyond

Not your normal Christmas Day viewing but my wife and mother-in-law hadn’t seen this so here we are. I remember enjoying it last year and it still holds up as a pretty solid entry into the Star Trek canon. At this point the cast have settled so well into their roles that you could watch them do anything.

On a somewhat related note - if you like Star Trek then I heartily recommend The Orville. It’s a comedy homage to Star Trek but it’s packed with new ideas and has a lot of what I loved about The Next Generation in its heart. I believe some of the old writers on TNG write for this show now. It’s a Seth MacFarlane show but don’t be put off if you hate Family Guy.
