Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Parts 1 & 2

Dobby never meant to kill! Dobby only meant to maim, or seriously injure!

We watched these two back to back, so I’m talking about them all in one go. It was heavy going across the finish line for me with this franchise, I am definitely done with Harry Potter for another ten or so years.

I have failed to get invested in the story this time around, despite watching all eight films attentively. There’s something missing from the whole thing I can’t quite put my finger on, but as things begin to wrap up it becomes harder and harder to care about what happens.

Nevertheless this is a solid end to the proceedings, and these two films (that should have been one 3 hour epic) are probably the best ones behind The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Harry and Hermione dancing in the eye of the storm is a rare and beautiful moment of truth. 90 seconds in a tent with Nick Cave accomplished more than eight very long films.
