Road to Morocco

This must be the place where they empty all the old hourglasses.

Bing Crosby and Bob Hope wash up on an African beach after their ship sinks. They follow the road to Morocco and get into hijinks with a local princess (Dorothy Lamour).

Enough brownface to make Justin Trudeau blush, but in spite of that this is still quite an amusing film.

Not every gag works, and there are boatloads of them, but in general Hope and Crosby’s fast-talking wise-cracking playing off of each other is very entertaining. It’s no wonder they carried on making these films into the 60s.

Normally songs in films like this are quite jarring but Bing is so velvety smooth, you could watch him all day.

Dated, but Bob Hope’s self-awareness keeps it fresh enough to still hold up in 2020.
