Stardust

“Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?”

It’s been a while, but Matthew Vaughn’s genre-bending fantasy hasn’t lost its sheen. He has a crisper-than-life, colourful vision throughout all his work that always lends it a memorable, slightly campy tone.

Perhaps Stardust is a little on the long side, and perhaps it tries a little hard to be quirky. Plus, the stakes never feel all that high and the characters aren’t particularly well rendered.

None of that matters too much; it’s a witty, fun and breathless romp through a beautifully fleshed out fantasy-land.

I had forgotten that Robert DeNiro hooks up with Henry Cavill.
