Son of Rambow

A couple of fatherless kids (Bill Milner, Will Poulter) set about making an amateur film based on First Blood.

I haven’t seen this since it came out, and while it’s a bit more paint-by-numbers than I remembered it’s an incredibly sweet and likeable film. The two child leads turn in surprisingly nuanced performances, both having fun but hurting beneath the surface.

It’s a beautiful love letter to those childhood friendships that form in the most unlikely of circumstances, and a testament to the human ability to find ways to heal in the most unlikely places.
