The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
I’ve been watching the slightly dull Rings of Power TV series so it felt right to revisit this to see if it was more boring than I remembered (it isn’t).
I’m watching this on a big screen in 4k HDR and the way the film looks after 20 years is remarkable, given the volume of special effects work at play. Jackson has a keen eye for when to do things in-camera and when to do it on the green screen and it’s made this look like it could have just come out.
I love the way he borrows the structure from old David Lean epics; every character gets so much room to breathe and there are clearly defined acts which almost work as standalone movies.
Looking forward to watching the next two.
