Has my initial excitement worn off a little now? Well perhaps, there’s a lot of traipsing around New Zealand in these films and The Two Towers is mostly about getting to Helm’s Deep, where a big ass battle is about to kick off.
The first hour or so shows its age through its special effects, but the final two hours and most importantly the battle of Helm’s Deep still look great.
The battle marks the culmination of a film all about forces converging, people making moves, and armies deciding whether or not to go to war. The whole final sequence pays off in a spectacular fashion, instantly inserting itself into the annals of cinematic history as an all time great.
