I Want You Back

Dying alone is not that bad. Why would you want someone to watch you die?

Two recently dumped people (Charlie Day, Jenny Slate) team up to sabotage each other’s exes’ new relationships. Sort of like a rom-com Strangers on a Train.

I don’t remember the last time I saw a rom-com this funny. Yes it’s formulaic, but the writing and acting is so sharp it’s a breath of fresh air. There’s a couple of welcome twists and turns in the story as the true implications of the drunkenly-devised plan comes to fruition.

Perhaps it runs on a little too long but I Want You Back is a charming and genuinely funny rom-com. This is a rare thing in a genre filled with low-effort nonsense.
