Trespasses

15 June 2023

Belfast, 1975. Cushla, a young Catholic, falls for an older, married, Protestant lawyer. They must keep their relationship secret at all costs or else risk their lives.

What sounds like a barebones romance novel comes to life in the hands of a writer who revels in the minutiae and details of life. It’s not showy prose but it frequently paints tangible, vivid images that appear lifted straight from reality.

It’s generally predictable, yet so well told that it makes for a devastating novel.
