Office Space

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this¹, but it came up in a film club I’m a part of and so I couldn’t resist seeing it again.

Something about the sincere message of this film told entirely though its deadpan 90s sardonic wit gets me every single time. It’s hilarious, relatable and quotable but beneath all the irony lies a message about the value of self-worth that has really stuck with me through life.

There’s a bit where the character called Michael Bolton pretends to like the musician Michael Bolton in order to suck up to the bosses and save his job. He gets fired anyway. His disgust at selling out even in the smallest way hits me hard every time.
