Paddington in Peru

“You can take the bear out of the jungle, but you can’t take the jungle out of the bear.”

The third Paddington film. This time Paddington goes on a trip to Peru to see his Aunt Lucy, but when he arrives she’s gone missing. Paddington and the Browns go a trip through the jungle to find her.

I didn’t go into this expecting a masterpiece to rival Paddington 2 but it quickly becomes apparent that without Paul King and Simon Farnaby writing the screenplay Paddington has lot a little bit of his wit and charm.

Taking him out of London seems to have been a bit of a misstep. Looking back over the previous films, it’s clear that they wanted to give the city a beating heart and pack it to the rafters with life and colour. That’s tougher to pull off in the rather monotonous Peruvian jungle they’ve built here.

There’s not much to see beyond a series of wacky scenes that build to nothing.
