Another Simple Favor
A sequel to the 2018 film1. In this one, Blake Lively is released from prison and tracks down Anna Kendrick. Blake invites Anna to her wedding in Capri as maid of honour, promising increased book sales but also threatening her with a lawsuit.
I very much enjoyed the last film but it wasn’t calling out to me for a sequel, and sure enough Another Simple Favor lacks much of the sure-footedness and elegance of the first one. With each twist and turn in the story it gets less and less entertaining.
There’s a monotonous style to the way this is cut together which also hurts the film. It’s just shot/reverse-shots, mostly cutting in time with the dialogue. I don’t usually pick up on this sort of thing but the scenes between Kendrick and Lively didn’t do much to keep you interested.
Quite a bad sequel to a solid first film. Hopefully everyone had a nice time in Capri.
