Best in Show
In doing some research for Wicked I found out that Ariana Grande’s favourite film is Best in Show, which gave me the itch to go and watch it again. Thanks Ariana for the recommendation, sorry I didn’t really enjoy Wicked 2 that much!
It’s been well over 20 years since I last saw this and it’s held up so well. I’d actually forgotten that Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara are husband-and-wife in this, pre Schitt’s Creek. Levy’s American Pie co-star Jennifer Coolidge is also in this, who is at once so off-beat and so glamorous it’s hilarious.
What I think I like about it is that Guest never really lets anyone steal the show, everyone gets equal footing and everyone is funny. It’s not quite as deadpan as I remember it but perhaps now I’m a bit older I find it even funnier than I did back then.
Ariana, I can also recommend the film Computer Chess1 if that’s your sort of thing.
