Eden

Having seen The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden¹ last year, it was interesting to hear that Ron Howard made a dramatised version of the same events.

Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby are well cast as the two original colonisers of the island, but everyone else struggles and Ana de Armas in particular is in the wrong role. A lot of it stems from the baffling decision to get everyone to do silly German accents.

That aside though there’s something gutless and tedious about this film. On the face of it it’s quite an interesting story about people who ran away from their lives to a desert island, and includes a suspicious disappearance among other aspects. Eden decides to just sort of languish for ages without developing its characters, and removes the mystery from the murder mystery.
