Four Weddings and a Funeral

Who turns their head towards the camera better than Andie MacDowell?
I really liked the way they shot this, lots of long-ish takes and two-shots to get the job done. It’s slow by today’s standards but I found it gets you really invested in the film and when they do speed up the edit, it has way more impact. It’s a bit like watching a play sometimes.
It’s a pretty standard rom-com format that Richard Curtis somehow waves a magic wand over to make far more effective than the usual fare. Funnier funny stuff and sadder sad stuff. The attention to detail in the script and the blink-and-you-miss it callback jokes elevate this above its peers, clearly it was a labour of love.
I’ll take or leave the ending, but I enjoyed this more than I did all those years ago.
Would Hugh Grant even get the job today for this role?
