Rap World

“I’ve spent some of the best nights of my life in parking lots.”

A behind-the-scenes mockumentary set in 2009, where three friends from Pennsylvania try and make a rap album in one night.

I could have sworn 2009 was like 5 years ago but no, I’m way off and we’re now making period pieces about it. It’s close enough to the present day though that you can pull off a film like this and make it look real without having to re-build the whole world around you.

And so the effect is really convincing, with everything shot on 2009 cameras and all the set dressing being on the money. The real skill is in capturing the slightly different way people act and speak, and it’s what sells the illusion here.

Is it funny though? Yes! Not for the first five or ten minutes, but once it finds its groove and you get on its wavelength it’s hilarious. It’s short, it’s oddball, it’s a hoot.
