The Naked Gun

“Hi, Dad. It’s me, Frank Jr. I just want to be like you, but refreshed and original.”

They brought the series back! With Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson this time. And it’s pretty good!

Having just watched The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!1 and its two sequels in anticipation of this, it’s clear that everyone involved with the film was keen to do it justice. It’s an avalanche of jokes that doesn’t stop until the end credits, and of course just like the original, into the credits.

You very rarely see a straight-up comedy getting a wide release like this, much less a spoof, and while it’s still based on an existing franchise it’s quite exciting to see something gain so much traction.

More importantly, it’s fun to be in a room full of people laughing their arses off. Mr Hollywood please make more funny movies, people like to laugh more than just at Spider-man winking at the camera. They did so well for like 80 years at the cinema then all but dried up about 15 years ago.

Maybe it lost me in the last 10 minutes, but this is a wonderful homage to Leslie Nielsen and a good film in its own right.
