The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

“Paddington 2 is incredible.”

Nicolas Cage plays himself, as he quits acting and is recruited by the CIA to monitor a super-fan (Pedro Pascal) who is thought to have kidnapped a girl.

Maybe the meta-humour here doesn’t always work, but Nicolas Cage was perfect in this role because he is the king of “doesn’t always work”.

It’s at its best when it’s just Cage and Pascal hitting it off together, which is a good chunk of the film. The plot is amusingly daft but it is a one-note joke that gets tired.

A funny action-comedy that probably had the potential to be better. But I still laughed.
