Picture of the Day: May 2007

We’re back with a stack of photos from May 2007. The banner image back in the day I thought was awesome. I was just getting into Linux and messing with images in GIMP, which looking back is pretty much what landed me in my current gig.

Now I look at it, I don’t know what I was going for! I can see it was my rugby shirt cargo pants era. I might go back to rugby shirts. Not so much cargo pants.

This was the break room at school, just for sixth formers. Sixth Form was that time when you didn’t have a full timetable, so it was always good to have somewhere to go to ‘revise’.

It was in the basement of the building that we’ll see later. If I remember rightly it had a snack hatch that sold greasy pizzas and shit. When the hatch closed in the afternoon in became a bit of a snogging room.

I don’t know what the hell this was for, but I do remember it being a more optimistic time, and talking about leaving the EU would have been regarded as mental.

I wish I could remember when I got this, but it was a long time before 2007. My parents gifted it to me for my birthday and I loved it. I build up quite a large CD collection.

When we would go on holiday, I would use it to make mixtapes on to cassettes for the car. Either from the CD player or from the radio.

At night if the weather was right we could just about get Century FM from Manchester. I would plug some headphones in and lean right over the side of the bed (because the cable was too short), and listen to “Jezza’s Confessions”, where people would ring in and tell their embarrassing raunchy stories. It was not for my age range but I used to find it hilarious. I later found out that “Jezza” was Jeremy Kyle.

As mentioned yesterday here we have some more Ben Oliver “Artiste” tat. Yes I actually sold one of these on redbubble to some rando. Just before leaving I think I snuck this into school and hung it up somewhere. I don’t think anyone noticed for a while but I very much doubt it’s still there.

More dicking about on photoshop. Again I thought this was the best at the time. Now I don’t know what I was thinking, as in, I don’t even know what I was going for or trying to do.

When you ‘have’ to take a picture every day you do find yourself pissing about a bit.

There was a micro trend for people get tattoos. That is to say, two people did. This is my friend Gab. At the time we called it the twattoo. Now of course all the cool kids are getting twattoos.

These are my parents. I chose this image because it looks like a stock image of two people who just discovered a computer. My mum is a good macro photographer, I suspect that is her camera on the table and I remember that the thing next to the PC is an external hard drive she had just bought for backups. God I hope she’s not still using it, I should check.

This is the headset I was using, no joke, to record my music on. It sounded dreadful. I didn’t care.

This was my Sixth Form college, part of The Grove school in Market Drayton. This building was quite nice really, which is probably why it was seldom used. The real school was a shitty 60s affair that was falling to bits, right behind where this picture was taken. If you move around the side of the building, there’s a circular tower too, and inside I remember it used to have bespoke curved doors and windows.

I’d forgotten about this. I cannot remember how it came into my possession. I suppose you couldn’t make one about Donald Trump because no one can say for certain when this nightmare will end.
