More classics at Moor Classics

Another car show from over the summer. This was a city centre one here in Sheffield - Moor Classics - and the vibes were really good. Perhaps because it was free and on a main shopping street, it turned out to be really busy and wildy successful.

I really just wanted an excuse to keep trying out my Canon VI-L camera. The viewfinder is still a bit cloudy but I’m getting into a bit of a groove with it.
The first few shots on the roll were pretty dark, then I seemed to get the hang of metering manually and I got a few I liked.
Here is a picture of blokes talking.

There was a lunatic preacher spewing bile and hatred onto the public, trying to ruin everyone’s day. The woman filming actually did the lion’s share of the preaching.
Once the crowd had had enough the car owners just honked their horns for a solid 10 minutes and dronwed them out. One guy I think had a special one fitted because it sounded like a foghorn, and seemed to never run out of steam.

As you might expect in the UK there were a lot of Morris Minors. This is a Traveller, with is famous external wood frame.

Then a Morris Minor police car from the National Emergency Services Museum1.

…and a shit ton more.

One of my all time favourites was there, the Volvo P1800.

I think this is inside a Suzuki Carry/Bedford Rascal but don’t quote me.

This guy had done a weird sort of barnyard camper conversion. The back which you can just see, is a garden shed. The inside is like straw and shit. I quite liked how he’d comitted to the redneck schtick.
It drew a lot of attention and he was talking all day.

E-Types are everywhere at these but I don’t really tire of looking at them.

It was an unusual car show, in that there was the camper-chair thermos flask vibes of a countryside one, but it was right in town. I hope the people who took their cars there liked it and will come back, I could tell the crowds were really into it.

OK this is is making it in because I love Volvos, and I liked how the picture turned out.
But it’s going at the bottom because frankly, the Fake Taxi sticker is gross. Benefit of the doubt, I don’t know if the guy had realised how many kids would be there. But there were tons of kids, and they also love Volvos, and they were asking their parents what Fake Taxi is. I know it seems funny but on the day you just look like a dickhead.

One of the stars of the show was this Isetta. The guy was letting kids sit in it, it was a hoot. I wish I’d gotten a better picture but it was so crowded I struggled to get one at all!

I really hope this event goes on again next year. I like old cars but I do get why car shows can feel a bit like something you might not want to go to, especially if you are paying. This one had a very different vibe and people from all walks of life were inexplicably drawn to some guys immaculate Saab 900 turbo. What more can you ask for?
