Office Romance
A newly hired lawyer (Brett Goldstein) working for an airline, falls for the company CEO (Jennifer Lopez). They begin a relationship that could potentially be ruinous to the company’s future.
This painfully uninspired and formulaic film does have a few things going for it. J-Lo can act, and she does a lot with very little. The quirky friend is Betty Gilpin who is probably the funniest character in the film, and there is a shocking and graphic childbirth scene that caught me off guard.
I can’t recommend it though, there just isn’t enough else to go on. Brett Goldstein, who co-wrote the film, is miscast. He struggles to be convincing as a rom-com lead, which is fine in a film that wants to carve out its own path, but this one really wants to be boring and so needs a typical boring leading man.
The visual style is unremarkable in that Netflix movie kind of way, glossy but tepid. It’s directed by Ol Parker of Ticket to Paradise1 fame which had a similar vibe.
Best avoided.
