People We Meet on Vacation

“I love it when you get weird.”

A couple of friends (Emily Bader, Tom Blyth) strike up a platonic relationship and meet up once a year to go on holiday.

Not much to report back here, this is a pretty solid rom-com that uses quite a compelling structure to keep things moving along. It’s set in present day but mostly happens in flashback, where the friends regale us of their times abroad - and of course we see their falling for each other over the years without realising.

It’s a nice plot device because you can’t be 100% sure if these two people, who really only meet up at the best times of their lives over and over again, would work out in real life. There’s more room for failure and suspense at the end than most rom-coms want to give you.

A glossy movie full of good looking people going on holiday all over the place, with a script that isn’t completely terrible. Worth a look if you’ve got Netflix and are sad or bored.
