Point Break

A new FBI agent (Keanu Reeves) goes undercover with a surfing gang, who are suspected to be responsible for a recent string of bank robberies. He befriends their charismatic front man (Patrick Swayze) and gets into the surfing lifestyle himself.

Keanu as a buttoned up FBI agent makes no sense, so it’s funny that they put him in a film where he has to “pretend” to be a surfer dude. It kind of does track in a film where the unusual dynamic between characters puts the whole thing in tension.

I’d never seen this film before, and I hadn’t realised just how hard the action scenes went. The skydiving in particular flows just like a regular scene on the ground with full camera coverage and parts where it was clear there were no stunt doubles. It’s so long and beautifully shot, but so technically seamless that you sort of take it for granted.

A mad premise for a film, but the impeccable execution is impossible to deny.
