The Devil All the Time

It’s book club¹ time again, where we read a book and watch the film adaptation of it. If you live in Sheffield come join us there are some good ones coming up!

This one… I didn’t like so much. Initially I struggled with the prose and the meandering back stories of all the characters, but once that clicked I was locked in.

The book as a whole though is a little series of interconnecting vignettes, all horrid, all violent, and it was just a slog to get through. What the hell is it with American fiction writers? Are they all fixated with writing stories about the sickest shit imaginable happening in rural areas? It can’t just be a country of animal killing religious perverts can it?
