The Green Mile

We’re back with the Something Strange book club1, watching a film of a book and reading a book of a film. This week it’s everyone’s favourite electrocutioner—Tom Hanks.

I haven’t seen this in well over 20 years. It’s long and hard-going, but a little more naive and heavy-handed than I’d remembered. I hadn’t noticed that accused murderer and magical healer John Coffey’s (Michael Clarke Duncan) initials are JC as in perhaps, Jesus Christ.

Still it’s a moving enough film and I loved the acting, cinematography and set design. It’s also, as we are about to find out, a very faithful adaption of the book for what it’s worth.
