The Stepford Wives
Joanna, a photographer, moves to a new town with her family. As she tries to befriend other women in the town she notices that they all seem unwilling to talk or socialise. They only leave the house to go to the supermarket and are obsessed with housework.
At not even 150 pages this is a short sharp hit of a thriller. It’s incredible what Levin achieves in this time - a feminist parable that explores the role of women in society and suggests that there are men out there who would rather be married to subservient androids rather than real people.
15 years ago this would have seemed quaint perhaps but now with the rise of trad wives red pill manosphere nonsense this book eerily feels relevant again.
