I must confess I’m struggling to write about this one. An hour or so on from the credits rolling and I’m stunned into silence. This is three hours of raw emotion from Anderson. Brilliantly acted, powerfully written, wonderfully shot; It’s knocked me for six in a way that’s beyond words.
This is a film like no other, I’m going to have to watch it again but the first viewing has managed to elicit a reaction akin to The Tree of Life and 2001. I can’t use the word masterpiece after the first run through, but it’s rare to see something so bold and yes, powerful. Not a word I whip out very often.
Firmly cements Anderson on my list of greatest directors. I simply cannot wait for Inherent Vice now.
