The Sheffield Pork Sandwich Tour: The Shelter

We were having a sunny stroll around Sheffield when we came across this new-ish cafe at Whirlow Brook Park. Guess what they had on the menu?

The Shelter

It’s a lovely place in a lovely setting. You could do a lot worse than to stop here even though the service was a touch on the slow side.

But we are looking at a new record here ladies and gents, a £9 pork sandwich. So what the asbolute Jesus could it possibly be like?

Well, it’s very good. Slabby-pork a bit like at The Forge Dam Cafe1 but more tender and more flavourful. A few bits of crisp but tender crackling on top. Some slightly-over herbed but very nice stuffing. All bathed in a nice gravy, not unlike what we see at Yummy Stuff2.

So it’s good but is it £9 good? Well of course it isn’t, that is basically impossible at this price. Maybe some chips and a drink on the side would have made it a bit of a deal but this is very pricey even in 2025.

However it’s all about the setting and the company you’re with sometimes, and my oh my what a fine day it was out there. The sun was out, people were happy, what more can I really ask for? (Maybe a £6 sandwich instead).

Price: £9
Address: Whirlow Brook Park, Sheffield
