My Oxford Year

“Your time here is precious. Seize it.”

A young American woman (Sofia Carson) takes a year out to study poetry in Oxford. Things get complicated when she starts to fall for the professor (Corey Mylchreest).

We’ve had a reasonably good run with the cheesy rom-coms of late, People We Meet on Vacation1 was quite good and Champagne Problems2 was also not completely awful.

It was probably a matter of time then that we’d run into a dud. And this one really is a bit of a chore. Lifeless, joyless and strangely paced. Somehow it skips a whole year far too quickly, but also feels like it will never end.

The protagonist is an awful smug girlboss bore and the love interest is sort of a discount Hugh Grant Nicolas Hoult.

Best avoided.
